Description

This is a very large, two sided, hand embroidered silk banner. Measures 30" x 52". Tears in two spots as seen on the edge, none of the text or decoration is affected. A remarkable find.
This landsmanshaft (Yiddish for a mutual aid society, benefit society, or hometown society of Jewish immigrants from the same European town or region), banner was for Jews from the town of Pietrokover, also known as Piotrokow, Petrokov, Petrikau, and today, is called Piotrkow Trybunalski. It is a town in the province of Lodz, Poland. Please google these terms to learn about the history of Jews there, great articles appear..."The Piotrkow Trybunalski Relief Association A Centennial", "The Jewish Community of Piotrków Trybunalski Between the Wars". Also google "Landsmanshaft", so many of these Jewish aid societies existed in late 19th and early 20th century New York, but I cannot locate any banners of them except for one, and it has no Yiddish! Google image "Bialystoker Ladsmanshaft", also from 1907!
Pickups in person are welcome, I am in New York City.
