1963 Schwinn "AMERICAN" Heavy-Duty Bicycle

Description

Schwinn AMERICAN, Heavy-Duty bicycle. This is a 1963 middleweight, Serial # H322331. This model was one of the specialty versions. They were equipped with large gauge spokes, delivery bike handlebars, heavy duty saddle, and the most exclusive feature, a 2-speed kickback hub on the rear wheel. I assembled this bike from the base parts of the frame, forks, chain guard, crankshaft,  and sprocket. I added the remaining components: WALD handlebars ( which are 1/2" shorter on each side ) but are the correct style. MESINGER black saddle ( correct model, but newer version ). The tubes and tires are KENDA repo's. Fenders are vintage Schwinn, however I believe the front fender is incorrect for the bike. The set matched up for the vintage look. The gooseneck is Schwinn as well. I replaced the kickstand. I also replaced some of the hardware with NOS Schwinn parts. The rear hub was serviced and works impeccably well...Starts, stops, and shifts as it should. The wheel set shows well. The chrome is bright. There is some pitting and chrome loss as one would expect. The heavy duty spokes are all intact and have a beautiful gray hue to them. All of the painted parts have some noticeable fading, paint loss, scratches, abrasions, etc. There is no obvious damage, other than that. The bike with have imperfections that I have not listed. The bike is a vintage Schwinn & is 58 years old. The fenders have dents and the stays are rusted now, but the chrome shines bright. The chain is  UNION or Schwinn. The black grips are like NOS. They are the hard plastic type. Correct for the bike. Overall this bike ROCKS !!!!! Not redone with junk parts, or items that do not match. I might have a set of "TRACTOR TREAD" tires for the bike. It rides like a Hot Rod Lincoln or a Sugar Daddy Caddy !!!!! Once again, examine all of the photographs. Ask questions.
