Hello everyone. Before you read the description of my bike here, please click on the watch button on your smart phone or computer first so you can watch its progression throughout the week. Also, the pictures I have provided here do no justice to the actual beauty of this bicycle. When one looks at the incredible finish on this bicycle, in real time and when it is in the sunlight, they will be amazed and even mesmerized by its eye popping and jaw dropping effects. Please read more about this below.
I have for sale here one of the finest looking and finest built 1969 Schwinn 5-speed Pea Picker Bicycles you will ever find and I mean anywhere. As you can see in the pictures this bicycle is in great shape. The frame is the original 1969 frame. It was first media blasted down to its bare metal and then powder coated with a very nice flamboyant green powder coating. It also has an unique sparkling metal flake added to it and it is very nice to say the least. Not only that, it also has 4 coats of clear coat on top to help protect the powder coating and it helps magnify the intense sparkles from the metal flake. This is a one of a kind concept I have developed here and you will not find this on any other Krate bicycle that is out there unless I am the one that had it done. It is very nice and it shines brilliantly in the sunlight (see pics). The serial number on it is EEXXXXX, which means it was made in May of 1969 at the now defunct Schwinn bicycle company in Chicago, Illinois..
The 5-speed shifter is the original 1969 shifter. Once again it is in good shape considering its age. The decals are in great shape and there is just a smidgeon of surface rust on the inside and arm of the shifter.
The fork assembly is in near perfect condition. There are very few areas of wear and tear on it. The chrome looks nice on most of it and on a scale of 1 to 10, with a 1 being totally blah and a 10 being perfect, I would rate this fork assembly as being a 9.0. I have also included two transparent silicon bumper tubes on the upper portion of the forks to help protect the forks and the powder coating from being damaged when the fork assembly swivels from side to side. It is very nice and very practical for this purpose.
The front 16-inch Atom wheel is original. It is in great shape and you can stop this bicycle on a dime with the use of its patented 4.5-inch Atom drum brake. The chrome looks fantastic on it. It is one of the better ones you will find out there.
Now turn your attention to the front tire that is on this bicycle. It is a newer Schwinn Superior tire and it is in very good condition for its age.
The rear 5 speed wheel is an original early 1970 wheel. It has the tubular and Schwinn stampings on the rim and the date on the center hub. It does show some minor surface rust here and there on the underside of the rim, but not overly severe. When you consider this wheel is more than 50 years old, it is in very good shape for its age.
The rear Schwinn Stingray Slik tire is new. It looks great and it goes perfect with the color theme of this bicycle.
Let move on to the green flag valve stem caps on each wheel. They are new and they look absolutely incredible. If you ever owned a Schwinn Krate bicycle before, then you know you had to have a set of these on it. This bicycle has them on it and so will you.
The front and rear fenders are new. They look very nice and they gleam nicely in the sunlight. You will get lots of attention from other people because of these fenders.
The bouncy Sissy bar is used, but it still functions perfectly. The chrome is excellent and it shines like mirrors in the sunlight. As with the fenders, you will get lots of attention with this thing.
The sissy bars would not be complete unless it had a nice tool bag attached to it. This tool bag is new and it is made of imported leather. Once again, it adds great value to this bicycle.
Of course you can’t help but notice the raccoon tail that is dangling down from the rear of the bicycle. It is real of course and it gives that needed touch for this bicycle.
The glittery green vinyl seat is a repop of the late 60s and early 70s style Banana seats. The sparkly green vinyl looks great on it. These types of banana seats are selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay right now so this one adds great value to this bicycle.
The rear 3 ¼ inch red banana seat reflector is new. It is little things like this that add originality and value to these classic Krate bicycles.
The Schwinn pedals are the original 1969 Bow pedals and they are in good condition. Most of the metal on them shine up good and the plastic pedal pads look great. They are not banged up and rusty like you see in a lot of the older bicycles. They are not perfect, but they are close to it.
The pedal sprocket and crank are original and are in very good shape considering their age. The crank has the year 69 embossed on it and the sprocket has some minor abrasions and scuff marks on it. Even though they are both 51 years old now, they still look good for their age.
The handle bars are original with the 69 year stamped on it. It is in decent shape, but it does have the typical road rash and rust in the obvious areas where the original boy owner laid the bike down on the road or sidewalk so he could go play with his friends. Still it looks good for its age.
The handlebars would not be complete unless it had nice Pea Picker handlebar grips on it, too. These grips are original and they look absolutely phenomenal.
As with the handlebar grips, they would not be complete unless they had streamers attached to them. These streamers are Hunt Wilde Green and White streamers and they add that extra touch of pizzazz to a already awesome bicycle.
Don’t forget about the black and white checkerboard mirror that is attached to the handlebars. It is new and it looks fantastic. I feel a classic Schwinn Krate bicycle is not officially crowned a classic Schwinn Krate bicycle unless it has one of these checkerboard mirrors on it.
As with the checkerboard mirror, a Schwinn Krate bicycle would not be complete unless it also had a bugle horn attached to it. This horn is new and the chrome is perfect. It is very loud and it adds that needed Vogue look to this awesome bicycle.
The goose neck stem is original with the 69 year embossed on it. It look great for its age.
Now look at the chrome headlight that is attached to the gooseneck stem. It is new of course and it looks very nice if I do say so myself.
The handle bar brake-levers are original and they are in great condition. They are covered with two original sparkly Schwinn Pea Picker lever covers.
What do you think of the grey brake cables and derailleur cable that are on this bicycle? These cables are new of course and they will last you for many years to come.
The BS3.6 brake calipers are original and so are the brake pads. They function like they should and they stop the back wheel from spinning with no problem.
The chain guard is an original late 60s Schwinn chain guard. It has been power coated the same color as the frame. The Schwinn Stingray Pea Picker decal on it is also new. It looks great and the painted chrome edging shines nicely in the sunlight.
The chain is the original one that came with this bicycle and works great.
The Schwinn derailleur is an original Schwinn Approved derailleur. The derailleur was thoroughly cleaned and lubricated for this sale. It does, however, have some minor scuff marks on it, but it functions on the bike just like it was a brand new one.
The kickstand is the original one that came with this bicycle. It does have some minor corrosion and surface rust on it, but not too severe. It still looks good regardless of its age.
As you can plainly see, this Schwinn Pea Picker bicycle is more complete and more equipped than most other Krate bicycle being sold here on eBay. This bicycle would make an excellent gift for yourself, your son, your grandson, your nephew or for any other boy you have great admiration for. Give him the gift he will love and cherish for many years to come.
Just to let to know this bicycle comes from a smoke free, drug free, alcohol free and animal free home.
