Beautiful Judaica Potichomania Artist Signed Leona Fein Double Candle HolderGently used, and in very good condition.
Potichomania Ketubah Fragment Candle Holder Golden - Leona Fein. Highly collectible functional art displaying fragment of old Jewish manuscripts. As an art form, potichomania was the craze in mid-19th century France and England. The chosen fragment(s) are specially treated and adhered to the underside of clear glass.
The framework and feet are created using oxidized copper. The alternating sides are textured cobalt stained glass and signed “Leona Fein” in gold script. Measuring 6 1/2" tall by 8" wide at base.
Artist Leona Moss Fein was born in NYC in 1930. She graduated from Queens College in 1980 with a degree in Studio Art. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, National Guild Decoupeurs, Guild Judaic Artists, and the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism being given their Woman of Distinction award in 2004. She has lectured at the Museum of Metropolitan Art.
Leona Fein’s work is not only her skill with stained glass, but also the lifetime she spent collecting old Jewish manuscripts and using an 18th century art form known as potichomania.
Popular in mid-19th-century England, potichomania is a technique whereby pictures and brightly colored pieces of paper are adhered to the underside of clear glass. Fein has spent a lifetime collecting Jewish manuscripts and incorporates facsimiles of portions of them into each of her Judaica pieces. This candle holder is hand signed by the artist and are in very good condition. It is perfect for the Judaica collector.
