    Description

This is an Antique Porcelain Hair Receiver made by the Erdmann Schlegelmilch porcelain factory in Suhl, Prussia, Germany about 1900.  The hand painted maker's mark on the bottom was first used in 1900. It predates the next mark by 2 years.  This factory was established in 1861 by Leonard Schlegelmilch and named in honor of his father, Erdmann.  Leonard died in 1898-99 and the business was taken over by his son, Julius Martin.  It grew until the WWI war years and closed in 1937.  There are not many pieces left from the original factory.  This hair receiver is hand painted with roses and thorny vine around the top piece.  Both the inner ring and outer rim were gold trimmed.  The outer rim has maintained most of it's gold while the inner rim has not.  The bowl has three hand painted rose buds equally distant from each other and has a gold ring around the outside upper edge.  There are blushes of green and brown blush to set off the pink w/yellow roses and vines. The only defects I find are the minimal gold loss(to be expected) and the small chip with a hairline crack as shone in the last three photos.  The price has been reduced because of these faults.  It is still a very lovely piece for being about 121 years old!
