    Description

RARE 1/6 PLATE TINTYPE - HISPANIC MAN ON HIS HORSE WEARING ELABORATE SHOW BRIDLE -
You are considering a fantastic and rare tintype of a Hispanic or Mexican Cowboy who was most likely part of Buffalo Bills Wild West Show. The reason I feel this to be true is I purchased this image with another one of the same man on the same horse wearing his Mexican Vaquero performance outfit including his sombrero. In both of the images his horse is fitted with elaborate tack including a fancy silver show bridle. Note the wool saddle blanket as well. Both the images I purchased were taken on the same street, but in front of different storefronts. The more civilian style of clothing worn in this image is also in keeping with the fashions during the 1890's or height of the Wild West Show time period. You can find numerous paper images of large groups of Mexican performers that toured with Buffalo Bill in his grand western productions and they all used similar bridles on their mounts. There is a very good chance this gentleman was one of the members of the famous Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. Good luck to all my clientele winning this outstanding tintype.

Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this cased image and as part of my description. The sixth plate tintype contains fantastic contrast, tonal range and beautiful sharpness. I might add that the overall composition and placement of the horse and rider are perfectly aligned with the light and dark elements in the distance. The image has minor surface wear consistent with age and a bit of scratching at the very bottom. Overall, an unusual and interesting image of a Hispanic gentleman on his trusty steed.
